SUMMARY:Long-Read Sequencing Workshop - Hosted by The Jackson Laboratory
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a four-day immersive experience designed for researchers eager to explore the full potential of long-read sequencing technologies. Whether you attend in person or virtually\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading scientists\, learn from cutting-edge research and gain practical insights into the evolving landscape of genome\, transcriptome and epigenome analysis. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout: \n\nLong-read sequencing has revolutionized our ability to interpret complex biological systems\, earning recognition as Nature’s Method of the Year in 2022. These technologies enable researchers to assemble highly contiguous genomes\, identify structural variants\, phase clinical mutations\, and resolve challenging genomic regions. Beyond DNA\, long-reads are uncovering the intricacies of spliced isoforms\, epigenetic modifications\, and microbial ecosystems\, driving discoveries in disease mechanisms and evolutionary biology. \nThis workshop features sessions on: \n\nGenome Evolution\nGenome Regulation\nTranscriptomics\nRare & Common Diseases\nViral and Microbial Genomes\n\nConfirmed keynote speakers include Adam Phillippy (NHGRI) and Megan Dennis (UC-Davis). \nSubmit an abstract by March 3\, 2026: Attendees are encouraged to submit an abstract during registration for consideration as a short talk or poster presentation. \nIn-person Experience \n\nMay 11 – 13: Didactic sessions\nMay 14: Optional hands-on laboratory (wet-lab) session\n\nThe in-person workshop also offers a unique platform to connect with genomics experts and industry leaders in the field\, foster collaborative research and advance your career. \nA limited number of travel awards are available to assist trainees with travel costs to attend this event. Trainees should apply for awards on the meeting registration. \nVirtual Access \nCan’t attend in person? Our virtual format ensures you won’t miss out. Access live-streamed lectures\, participate in interactive Q&A sessions\, and benefit from recorded content available for three months after the course. \nAccommodation Information \nWe strive to host inclusive\, accessible events that enable all individuals\, including individuals with disabilities\, to engage fully. To request accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility\, please contact Erin McDevitt at 207-288-6000 x256659 or erin.mcdevitt@jax.org. \n

SUMMARY:Shaping CT's Future: Workforce Velocity: Stabilizing the Talent Economy to Accelerate Growth
DESCRIPTION:  \nConnecticut does not lack talent\, organizations\, or opportunity. What it lacks is coordinated speed. \nIn a volatile labor market shaped by demographic shifts\, policy changes\, technological acceleration\, and rising cost pressures\, the greatest competitive advantage will not belong to the state with the most talent. It will belong to the sectors that move talent the fastest. \nThe Talent Economy is driven\, in part\, by Workforce Velocity\, or the rate at which a person can stabilize\, earn\, advance\, and sustain upward mobility. \nVelocity determines how quickly: \n\nA parent can secure childcare after being hired\nA student can convert coursework into wages\nA manufacturer can shift demand into staffed shifts\nA displaced worker can re-enter the labor force\nAn entry-level employee can become middle income\nWhen velocity slows\, employers feel scarcity. Families feel fragility. The state feels stagnation.\n\nConversely\, when velocity increases\, growth compounds. \nOur Workforce Velocity event brings together leaders from business\, education\, policy\, infrastructure\, finance\, and community organizations to examine one central question: How do we design the fastest-moving talent economy in the country?

SUMMARY:2026 Walk to End Alzheimer's - Greater New Haven
DESCRIPTION:Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide\, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care\, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease. \nSince 1989\, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® ; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer’s. \n \nWhile there is no fee to register for Walk\, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention\, treatment and\, ultimately\, a cure. \nWhere do the funds go?\nAll funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the care\, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. \nDo I have to register in order to Walk?\nYes\, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every participant to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However\, we ask every participant to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. \nDo I need to register my children for Walk?\nYes\, children should register. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child. \nDoes every participant get a T-shirt?\nEvery registered participant who achieves the fundraising minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt via USPS. To receive a shirt in time for Walk day\, participants must raise the T-shirt minimum at least four weeks prior to the event. \nHow do I get my offline donations to show up on my personal fundraising web page?\nDonations can be made offline by submitting a check or money order by mail or hand-delivering to the local Alzheimer’s Association office. Be sure to include your offline donation form\, which can be found in your Participant Center or on your fundraising web page\, to make sure you receive credit for the donation. Donations typically take one to two weeks to show up on your web page. Don’t want to wait? You can also deposit checks directly to your Walk page from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s mobile app for iPhone or Android. \n\n\n\nRoute Length: 2 miles / Short Route: 1 mile \nContact:\nEmily Rorke | 860.362.0963 | earorke@alz.org
