Grounded in positive psychology\, leadership development\, and real-world leadership experience\, this session blends evidence-based frameworks with hands-on practice. \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify personal barriers to speaking up and replace them with confident communication strategies\nClarify what they want to say and how to say it effectively\nSpeak up with both warmth and assertiveness in meetings and professional conversations\nNavigate bias using translation strategies\nReframe setbacks using the 3Ps framework (Personal\, Permanent\, Pervasive)\nAdvocate for themselves and confidently ask for opportunities\n\nThis highly interactive workshop is designed for women in STEM at several career stages\, including early and mid-career scientists and emerging leaders. Currently he leads Campus Recruitment for the Software Engineering functions\, coordinates all intern programming for the North Haven\, CT site\, and maintains relationships with key partner universities in the Northeast. \n  \n \nChad Smutney\, BSME\, Vice President Technology\, MannKind \nChad joined MannKind in 2006 and immediately formed a technology development team chartered with advancing the pulmonary delivery of insulin using dry powders that feature Technosphere® technology. His work at MannKind has resulted in the DreamBoat® and Cricket® inhaler systems as well as several ancillary technologies such as BluHale® designed to ease user onboarding of dry powder products. Over the years\, two FDA regulatory approvals for orally inhaled dry powders were achieved\, one for Afrezza used in treatment of diabetes and one for Tyvaso DPI used in treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine\, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has received several awards\, including the Burroughs-Wellcome New Initiatives in Malaria Award\, the LVMH Science Pour L’Art Prize\, and the Searle Scholars Award. Fred graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1978\, received his D.Phil. from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1980\, earned his M.D. from Stanford Medical School as an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellow in 1984 and completed his internal medicine and endocrinology training at UCSF.

DESCRIPTION:In this interactive session\, middle and high school students will explore how STEM skills like biology\, chemistry\, technology\, and data analysis are used in real crime scene investigations and forensic science. Students will analyze a mock crime scene\, learn about different forensic career pathways\, and learn how to start building those skills today. \nYWIB Age Group: Grades 6-12 \nSpeaker Bio \nLynne Dougherty\, Unit Commander of the Special Victims Unit at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office \nLt. Lynne Dougherty is the Unit Commander of the Special Victims Unit\, ICAC\, and Forensic Nurse Examiner programs at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. She oversees investigations into adult and child sexual assaults\, child abuse\, trafficking\, and elder abuse—managing over 100 cases annually. Lt. Dougherty supervises multidisciplinary teams\, coordinates with prosecutors and agencies\, and provides oversight of specially trained investigators. Her forensic career includes work in homicide\, narcotics\, internal affairs\, and juvenile justice\, offering a comprehensive approach to crimes against women and children. \n
