Eastern is Connecticut’s public liberal arts university, guided by our tagline, “A Liberal Arts Education. Practically Applied.” Our liberal arts core curriculum uses innovative and interdisciplinary courses to expose students to a broad range of academic disciplines while developing valuable skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration and independent research. With more than 5,300 students, Eastern currently offers 40 undergraduate majors, 56 minors, and 11 master degrees. Among the undergraduate majors, Eastern has strong offerings in biology and biochemistry, with extensive research opportunities for students, preparing them for jobs or graduate and professional school. Eastern also offers a major in Health Sciences with concentrations in Public Health Studies, Pre-Nursing and Pre-Physical Therapy. To support these efforts, Eastern’s new state-of-the-art Science Building include a DNA Sequencer; an Imaging Center with confocal microscope; a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center and other specialized labs.
