The U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee has released a slimmed-down discussion draft of its 21st Century Cures legislation with support from Republicans and Democrats.

The draft, which follows a release by E&C Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) in January that no House Democrat endorsed, would authorize $2 billion of additional NIH funding per year for five years. NIH would receive the funding only if the increase is passed by the House Committee on Appropriations. Like much of the draft, the NIH funding provisions are in brackets, meaning the language is not final.
