General Information:

The University of New Haven (UNH) is a private, student-centered, comprehensive university with an emphasis on providing a unique combination of a solid liberal arts education and real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities.

In addition to the main campus in West Haven, the university operates a satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy and also offers programs at several other locations in Connecticut, and in California and New Mexico. The University recently announced an initiative to transform the center of campus with an interdisciplinary building in which students from different colleges will work together to enhance their experiential education via discovery based learning. UNH enrolls nearly 1,600 graduate students and more than 4,800 undergraduates in 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The student body is served by 263 full-time faculty members.

Bioscience-related undergraduate degrees include B.S. programs in Biology, and Genetics and Biotechnology. Graduate degrees at UNH include Masters programs in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare Administration. Certificates in Bioinformatics and Project Management are also offered. In addition, health related topics are addressed by the interdisciplinary Shared Health Professions Department, a university wide initiative dedicated to promoting and building health profession programs.

Research Activities
Current bioscience related research programs focus on Lyme disease, detection of environmental contamination, nanotechnology, microbiome analysis, DNA repair mechanisms, biomaterial science, marine biology and ecology.
