New BioCT member Modifi Biosciences recently reported that the journal Science has published a critical study validating the company’s novel oncology platform based on new classes of molecules that exploit tumor-associated DNA repair defects through direct cancer cell DNA modification. The Yale spinout closed a $6.4M seed round, which will support IND-enabling studies and expansion of the platform to target cancers with other DNA repair defects.

Nucleate is a student-run nonprofit organization that facilitates the formation of new life science ventures. Their equity-free Activator program supports companies that tackle the biggest challenges in human health (Bio Track) and sustainability (Eco Track). The program connects scientific trainees and business students with a world-class advisor network of startup founders, executives, venture investors, and renowned scientists.

Over three years, Nucleate has formed and supported 107 startup teams through their Activator program. Alumni have gone on to raise over $152M in funding to develop technologies like protein sequencing (Glyphic), drug design (Manifold Bio), microbial fertilizer (Ivu Biologics) and biomanufacturing (FarmForward). In the past year, Nucleate New Haven has supported three Yale student-led venture teams: Hybridex Biosciences, Calliope Bioscience, and Ascent Bio.
