MAPS Impacting Careers: The Value of Mentorship – Hosted by WIB

January is National Mentoring Month and WIB-National’s Mentorship, Advisors, Peers, and Sponsorship (MAPS) Committee is bringing together three successful leaders at varying stages of their careers to share their mentorship experiences. They’ll discuss finding and engaging with their mentors and how mentorship has influenced their career trajectories. Learn how to develop a positive mentor relationship, the responsibilities of a mentee, and the key to ensuring the mentor relationship is a success.

Speaker Bios

Peter Anastasiou, Chief Executive Officer of Capsida Biotherapeutics

Peter Anastasiou serves as Capsida’s Chief Executive Officer and member of the board of directors. He has 30 years of experience managing multifunctional and diverse organizations, leading them to achieve common goals. Before Capsida, Mr. Anastasiou served as an Executive Vice President and a member of the executive committee at Lundbeck, reporting to the CEO. As President of Lundbeck’s U.S. and Canadian business operations, Mr. Anastasiou led as many as 1,200 employees and achieved annual net revenues of $1.5 billion, playing a pivotal role in developing and launching multiple products and building the company’s cross-functional capabilities.

Prior to Lundbeck, he held management roles at Neuronetics, Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, and Eli Lilly and Company. Mr. Anastasiou served on the Board of PhRMA for more than four years and currently serves on the global advisory board for the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and was named the 2019 HBA Honorable Mentor and one of the 2020 PharmaVOICE 100. He holds an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a BA in economics and management from Albion College.

Holly Copeland, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability & Impact at Horizon

Holly is responsible for creating, building, and implementing Horizon Therapeutics award-winning global corporate social responsibility portfolio. In addition to being inducted into the CSR World Leaders at Parliament in 2019, Horizon has been named by People Magazine as a Top 50 Company That Cares multiple times and received a gold international CSR in excellence award, among many other accolades.

Holly is a Board member of Perspectives Charter Schools, Chicago Innovation, and the Chicago Council on Science and Technology. She is also a member of the President’s Council of the Museum of Science and Industry and on the advisory boards of MATTER, Shopping.Gives and is a co-founder of the 3.8 Initiative. A founding mentor of Chicago Innovation’s Women Mentoring Co-op, Holly is also a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs’ Women and Global Development Advisory Committee.

Prior to joining Horizon, Holly led the Office of Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology for the state of Illinois, which involved the management of a $144 million portfolio that provided technical assistance & financial support for Illinois’ small businesses and innovation ecosystems. Under Holly’s leadership, special attention was paid to ensuring investments focused on fostering the inclusion of communities of color and women. Holly has also served as CEO of a privately-held boutique consulting firm, was President of the Illinois Inaugural Committee, former Governor Pat Quinn’s Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Development for a statewide non-profit organization.

Holly has a master’s degree in international affairs/international political economy from Washington University in St. Louis and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Illinois, Springfield (where she also earned a graduate certificate in non-profit management & her undergraduate degree in business administration). She is the proud mother of two curious and creative daughters, with whom she co-wrote the children’s book, Teca, The Teeny, Tiny, Teacup Pig & Her BIG World.

Eliza Eskafi, PhD, Project Lead at CellCarta

Eliza works in the field of Immune-Oncology and is currently Project Lead at a CRO called CellCarta in Montreal, Canada, focusing on immune monitoring of clinical samples. She is a member of the Canadian Pharmaceutical Science Group and the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology. She is also Vice Chair of the Communications Committee at the Women In Bio, Greater Montreal Chapter. Eliza has personally used (and is still using) different mentorship programs.
