The Future of Patient Care in Mood Disorders – Hosted by JLabs

October 6, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Mood disorders are a class of mental health diseases that can interfere with everyday life.1 For some patients, symptoms can present themselves as excessive sadness (known as major depressive disorder) whereas others may experience extreme elation (or bipolar disorder).[1] Mood disorders are highly common, with nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults estimated to experience a mood disorder at some point in their lives.

For patients living with bipolar disorder, a delay in diagnosis could be more than 6 years on average, potentially introducing risk factors like morbidity or higher healthcare costs to manage the disease.[2] While effective treatments for mood disorders have come to market within the last few decades like antidepressants and psychotherapy, understanding the root cause of these disorders could be key to potentially providing better health outcomes for patients.[3]

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Johnson & Johnson Innovation and Janssen Research & Development will bring together a panel of leading neuroscience experts with the aim to uncover the science behind mood disorders, looking to how we can potentially tap into the brain’s natural structure and function to advance earlier diagnosis and treatment options.
