News on the ORPHAN Cures Act

Yesterday, Senators John Barrasso, M.D., (R-WY) and Tom Carper (D-DE) introduced the Senate companion to the Optimizing Research Progress Hope and New Cures Act, or the ORPHAN Cures Act. See BIO’s statement from House introduction and their one-pager.

Aon Cyber Threat Advisory for BioCT MembersBioCT Members, Aon’s Cyber Threat Advisory Team has made us aware of an ongoing social engineering campaign. While this campaign was targeted against the technology, manufacturing, and telecom sectors, we’re seeing a significant uptick in cyber events this year – across industries- hitting home the importance of incident response preparedness. Download this document for more information.

A couple thoughts for BioCT Members specifically:

Do you have coverage in place today? Does the policy have coverage for social engineering claims?Who is your partner for Incidence Response Support in the event of a breach?

How Aon Can Help:

As a broker, Aon can obtain cyber quotes for your business. Aon is offering complimentary policy reviews. Consider adding Aon’s $0 Incidence Response Retainer to your current policy so in the event of a breach, you have an approved partner (covered by your insurance) to call to help.

Pro-innovation mergers and acquisitions (M&A) bring together the resources, investment, and expertise needed to develop and deliver new treatments and cures for patients. That’s why BioCT joined PULSE (Partnership for the U.S. Life Science Ecosystem), a coalition to raise awareness of the benefits of M&A and to defend innovation in the life sciences. Together, we can help America continue leading the world in biopharmaceutical breakthroughs.Learn more here

One of my favorite parts of the job is being hosted by current and prospective members. I am “changing the wings of the plane as we fly,” continuing a perpetual listening tour as I fine tune and enhance our offerings. I appreciate the opportunity to share all we have planned, but even more so I like to think outside of the box and brainstorm on novel collaborations. There are some common priorities, whether it be space, funding, a commitment to mentoring and diversity or recruiting talent. A theme that keeps coming up recently is the need for “critical mass” in CT – ensuring we keep and lure sizeable companies here. Everything we do goes into building the ecosystem with countless new opportunities to participate. I hope you will continue to reach out and learn how you can contribute.
