Yale investigates a rare degenerative disease

Yale pharmacology professor Barbara Ehrlich and her team have uncovered a mechanism driving a rare, lethal disease called Wolfram Syndrome and also a potential treatment.

Wolfram Syndrome — a progressive degenerative disease that affects about one in 500,000 people worldwide — is characterized by the onset of diabetes in childhood, and, in teen years, psychiatric symptoms, loss of vision, deafness, and incontinence. Most patients die in their 30s.
